A Rogers Park man has been charged with robbing a 16-year-old girl in the 1700 block of Ashland Avenue Monday evening.
Evanston police say officers on patrol spotted 41-year-old Anthony Lee Lane of 964 W. Fargo in Chicago running in the 1600 block of Church Street about 7 p.m. Monday, about a block away from the crime scene, and were told by a witness that he’d just robbed the girl.
The officers say they caught up with Lane as he was about to enter a building two blocks further west on Church and took him into custody.
The victim later told police that Lane had hit her, knocked her to the ground and grabbed her cell phone before running off.
Police say they found the stolen cell phone in Lane’s possession.
Lane is scheduled to appear in Skokie district court on Wednesday, Feb. 17.
