Evanston police, responding to a garage burglary in progress, arrested Patrick Joseph Gordon, 46, of 1458 Chicago Ave., after a systematic canvas of the area surrounding the burglary, in the 1100 block of Sheridan Road.

The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to Cmdr. Tom Guenther of the Evanston police. Gordon was charged with one felony count of burglary after being positively identified by a witness.

Also recovered was $15.91 in coins, believed to have been in a vehicle in the victim’s garage.

Shortly after the burglary, according to Guenther, an Evanston patrol unit spotted a suspect matching the description of the offender. A “showup” resulted in the positive identification of Gordon as the offender, said Guenther, and he was taken into custody.

Gordon is due in court in Skokie on Dec. 1 at 9 a.m.
