Evanston police say a stolen BMW riding on a shredded tire crashed into a parked car early this morning in the 1300 block of Mulford Street.
Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says officers had spotted the car moments earlier at Main and Asbury and were following it when it crashed.
Dugan says the driver, a 21-year-old Chicago man, fled on foot, while the two other occupants, Chicago males ages 21 and 15, stayed with the car and were taken into custody.
The department’s police dog was called to the scene and led officers to the 400 block of Wesley, where Dugan says, the driver of the car was arrested.
Inside the car officers found a loaded Glock 9mm with a 30 round extended magazine. Dugan says the weapon had a round chambered and 17 in the magazine.
Charges are expected to be filed in the incident on Monday. The car, which had Georgia plates, had been stolen in Chicago.
