Evanston police say the man shot last night on Evanston’s west side never saw the person who shot him.

Police Cmdr. Brian Henry says the victim, an older man, was out walking with his wife in the 1900 block of Ashland Avenue, near the Jacob Blake senior housing building, when he was struck by a bullet in his lower right leg.

Police later found shell casings a bit to the west of the victim’s location, in the 1900 block of Dewey Avenue.

The victim and his wife told officers they never saw the person who fired at least 10 shots in the area moments after 10 p.m.

A responding officer applied a tourniquet to the victim’s leg, and he was transported to the hospital where he’s listed in stable condition this morning and is expected to recover.

Henry says detectives are continuing to investigate the incident.
