The struggling fast-casual restaurant chain Cosi has shuttered its Evanston location at 1740 Sherman Ave.

The chain filed for bankruptcy protection last October, closing some outlets then, but kept its seven Chicago area locations, including the one in Evanston, open at that point.

The company website today lists just six locations in Illinois, five in the City of Chicago and one in Glenview.

Cosi also went through a wave of store closing in January 2016. Industry analysts say the chain, which launched in 1996, has been struggling for years.

Long-time Evanstonians may recall that the Sherman Avenue storefront decades ago was one of four Evanston locations for the Walker Bros. Snack Shops, all long-since shuttered as that family-owned firm focused on its successful pancake house concept.

  1. I remember Walker Bros.

Other locations: 1.  Grove and Sherman SW corner; 2. Central St – maybe west of metra tracks ?? 3. Main Street between Hinman and Chicago, north side of the street.

    1. Cosi Restaurant

Any idea what might go into that space now?  Have any other restaurants expressed interest in the space?
