COVID cases here up 31% from last week

Case counts also increasing in Cook County and across Illinois.

COVID-19 cases in Evanston over the past seven days have jumped 31% from the week earlier period — increasing from 45 to 59.

The percentage increase here was slightly higher than the 29% growth reported for Cook County as a whole.

Cases reported among students at School District 65 remained unchanged at five, but the number of D65 students in quarantine fell from 80 a week ago to 32 as of this Friday.

At Evanston Township High School there were two new cases among students this week, the same as last week. But the number of students quarantined fell from 10 to five.

Total new cases at Northwestern University increased from 29 to 30.

The COVID death toll in Evanston remained unchanged this week at 121. The most recent death of an Evanston resident from COVID was reported nearly two months ago, on Sept. 14.

The city says 97.9% of Evanston residents 65 and older are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as are 76.8% of all residents five and older.
