The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office reports nine COVID-19 deaths of Evanston residents so far in January
The victims ranged in age from 57 to 91 years old. Four died at nursing homes, the other five in private residences.
So far the Evanston Health Department has only listed two COVID-19 deaths this year and puts the pandemic death toll at 130.
The Health Department’s COVID-19 dashboard currently shows no data beyond last Monday.
But the available data indicates cases are trending down in Evanston after a huge spike earlier this month.

That’s also the trend seen statewide — although cases remain at a higher level than during most of the now nearly two-year run of the pandemic.
COVID cases are also trending down in Evanston schools.
Evanston Township High School has switched to updating its COVID dashboard on Mondays rather than Fridays, so the latest available ETHS data is from last Monday.
