The Evanston Police Department this morning unveiled a substantial redesign of its daily crime bulletin.

Police Commander Tom Guenther says the new approach will save time by letting the department produce the bulletin automatically from its internal computer systems, rather than having a staff member prepare it by hand.

The department provided no advance notice of the redesign, and for Evanston Now readers that means at least a temporary suspension of updates to our daily crime map and crime list, while we try to adapt our system to the new data format.

If those features are something you value, drop us a note using the contact form. That will help us decide whether to rework the crime map to fit the new data format.

In the meantime, you can read the daily bulletin in its new format here.
