    "In both cases the suspect was described as a white female, 5-feet-9-inches tall…" [italics mine] Can we assume from this description that from now on, any suspects to anything not identified as "white" are blacks?

      Hi Curmudgeon,

      No, you may not assume anything of the sort.

      When police provide a description of a suspect who is not yet in custody in the daily bulletin, our general practice is to include the full description, including the race — regardless of what it may be.

      Sometimes, if pressed for time, or if the description provided by police is incomplete, we may skip the description entirely.

      If you were trying to determine whether the suspect in two crimes was actually the same person, wouldn't it be relevant to you what the race of the person was?
