A man who gave his address as a local homeless shelter has been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer after he and another homeless person were arrested for allegedly stealing items from a downtown drug store. That story is among the items in today’s Evanston police daily crime bulletin.

  1. Bums

Has anyone else noticed that there appears to be a whole lot more bums downtown now? There are a few that congregate at the Armenian Church/Buffalo Joe's area, a few in the Goldberg park, some by CVS, others near the library, and even more  near the CTA station. Don't we have a panhandling law here in Evanston? It certainly makes the area feel less safe and probably keeps more people from frequenting the area who actually spend money. It is unpleasant to be asked for money everywhere I go. Some are clearly not destitute as they are obese, which I find humorous. Others appear mentally ill, in which case are perhaps a danger if not medicated.
