City officials held a “topping out” ceremony for Evanston’s new Robert Crown Community Center Monday afternoon at the construction site on Main Street at Dodge Avenue.
Aldermen, library board members, members of the Friends of the Robert Crown Center fundraising group and city staff involved in the project got to sign one of the final steel beams before it was placed in the building.
The new $53 million building, with two ice rinks, a branch library, a gymnasium, child-care center and other facilities, is scheduled to open in December.
