Evanston Purple line riders, and other CTA patrons, can save a few bucks thanks to a deal the transit agency has cut with Chicago-based Groupon.

Groupon will sell 250,000 3-Day CTA passes for $9 later this month. The CTA’s usual price tag on these passes is $14.

The program is designed to encourage new ridership, according to a CTA press release.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel said he hopes the deal will attract new customers to CTA.

Just in time for the Taste of Chicago and other events, the deal is expected to draw nearly $1.9 million in revenue for the CTA.
