The new CTA viaduct at Greenleaf Street in Evanston will be rolled into place this weekend — halting Purple Line service, but providing a show for sidewalk construction superintendents.

The trains will stop running between Howard and Davis from 8:30 p.m. Friday to 4:30 a.m. Monday. Shuttle bus service will be provided along Chicago Avenue.

You can watch the viaduct project from the sidewalk on the south side of Greenleaf near the Autobarn used car lot.

The roll-in of the viaduct is tentatively scheduled for between 4 and 7 p.m. Saturday.

CTA contractor will also do platform work on the Dempster Street station from 10 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday in preparation for the new viaduct that’s to be installed there the last week of June. That work will reduce traffic on Dempster Street to one lane westbound.
