Jeremy Rielley, who teaches physical education at Dawes and Orrington elementary schools and also serves as a soccer coach at Evanston Township High School, is in the running for the My Chicago Athlete Magazine 2016 Athlete of the Year.

In a news release from Evanston/Skokie School District 65 headquarters, his colleagues noted that he had been named Athlete of the Month by the magazine for November and December.

Rielley is especially noted for winning the Transamerica Chicago Triathlon two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016, in competition against nearly 7,000 athletes from around the world in the course that consisted of a .93-mile swim, 24.8-mile bike ride, and a 6.2-mile run that totaled 31.93 miles.

Superintendent Paul Goren paid tribute to Rielley at the district’s board meeting on Monday.

The magazine invites its readers to vote for the athlete to receive the Athlete of the Year honors.
