D65 teachers approve contract

Evanston/Skokie School District 65 officials say the district’s teachers approved a new contract with the district at a meeting Friday evening.

The school board is scheduled to ratify the agreement at its regular meeting Monday night.

Board President Mary Erickson said the deal "is in the best interests of the students in our district."

Board spokesman Pat Markham said terms of the agreement would be available at the board meeting Monday.

Both the school board and union bargaining teams unanimously recommended the tentative agreement for approval.

The school board had sought a 20-minute extension of the school day in the new contract. It was not immediately known whether that provision is included in the agreement.

In September the teachers voted by a wide margin to reject a tentative agreement worked out over the summer.

The new agreement was reached last week after marathon negotiating sessions.
