The District 65 school board hopes to select a new board member Oct. 15 to fill the opening left by Sharon Sheehan’s resignation.
Ms. Sheehan submitted her resignation last Wednesday, citing in a public letter a lack of change in the district’s policies.
“I would add my thanks to Sharon’s service,” said board president Mary Erickson during Monday’s working board meeting.
“And I truly hope that she found some kind of satisfaction from the board service. I would be remiss if I wasn’t completely honest and said I was hurt somewhat by the letter that she felt compelled to write to the public.”
The six remaining school board members have 45 days to find a successor to finish her term, which ends in April 2009.
Ms. Erickson said board members plan to interview candidates the afternoon of the Oct. 15 meeting, deliberate and name a new board member, who will start that evening.
She said the board is looking for a commitment, interest in the district, and knowledge of the responsibilities of a board member.
People interested in the position can submit resumes and letters of interest by Oct. 9 addressed to Ms. Erickson at the District Education Center, 1500 McDaniel Ave. in Evanston.
Jacob Novar for District 65
I am a parent and have kids in district 65 and district 202 and I see no one better for the job then Jacob Novar. For thoes who forgot he is the first 18 year old and first student to run for a public office. He was absolutly correct when stating that “every school board needs a students perspective” even though he couldn’t get elected to District 202 I see no reason why he shouldn’t be a candidate to fill the position. Yes, he lacks experience, but he makes that up in ambition and understanding of both districts from a students perspective. For anyone who watched any of the debates you know he was head on, on all of the issues and answered all the questions just as good, or better then the other seven candidates he ran against. All i’m asking is to give him a chance at the position. Thank you.
Position for district 65
Hello community. This is former district 202 candidate Jacob Novar. I am requesting the school board to re-evaluate putting a student on a school board. I am fully aware of the responsibilites of a school board member. I understand the problems the district is going through. I have been to over 20 district 202 meetings and have a strong understanding of their problems as well. All I am asking is for the district 65 school board to re-consider my candidicy.
Respectfully Yours,
Jacob Novar
