How to borrow and read eBooks will be visibly demonstrated to Evanston library patrons when the Digital Bookmobile National Tour makes a stop in the library parking lot next month.

The 42-foot-long digital bookmobile, equipped with broadband internet-connected computers, free Wi-Fi connection, touchscreen monitors, premium sound systems, and a variety of portable media players will be on display and demonstrated from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 12.

“This is a great opportunity for Evanston’s readers to explore the world of eBooks, learn more about what is available to them through the library, and get their questions answered,” said Library Director Karen Danczak Lyons.

Library statistics show that readers checked out more than 86,000 digital items in 2016. The total number of circulated items was 1,080,109.

In the bookmobile’s Gadget Gallery, readers can explore such popular devices as the iPhone, iPad, Android phones, and tablets, Chromebook and Kindle. Interactive learning stations will encourage visitors to search the library’s digital media collection and go through the borrowing process. Beginners can get a one-on-one tutorial from technical experts.

A valid library card unlocks the opportunity for readers to explore the extensive digital catalog featuring bestselling authors, new releases, classic titles, and much more. Whether listening to an audiobook or indulging in an eBook, titles will automatically expire and return to the library’s digital collection at the end of the lending period.
