Design Evanston is organizing three bike tours and two walking tour of notable places in Evanston this summer and fall.

A Lakeside Bike Tour led by Laura Saviano will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, at the north end of Lee Street beach and cover three miles.

A South Evanston Bike Tour led by Jack Weiss will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 12, from the west gate of Calvary Cemetery and cover four miles.

A North Evanston Bike Tour led by Heidi Hoppe will start at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 27, from the city parking lot at Central Street and Stewart Avenue and cover four miles.

And walking tours of Downtown Evanston led by Kris Harzell will start at 10 a.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 4 and 18, from Fountain Square and cover two miles.

Buildings featured on each tour are also featured in the book, “Evanston: 150 Years 150 Places” published by Design Evanston last year. Books, $15 cash/check only, will be available for purchase at the end of each tour.

All tours will last approximately 1.5 hours. Tour leaders were authors of the book.

Bike riders must wear a helmet and are encouraged to bring a water bottle. Ride pace between stops will be a “relaxed” or “casual” 10 to 12 miles per hour. Each tour will end at the same place it began.

The walking tours are co-sponsored by the Evanston History Center.

Light refreshments will be provided at the end of each tour. The cost for each bike tour is $10 per person and for the walking tour, $20 per person, payable by cash or check at the start of the tour.

Reservations are required by emailing event@designevanston.org. Tours are limited to 20 people.
