Evanston police say a fight that broke out at a party in the 1700 block of Monroe Street about 9:30 Friday night left two man hospitalized — one with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Police Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says that during the fight a 25-year-old Chicago man pulled out a gun and shot a 23-year-old Evanston man. Other people at the party then intervened, Dugan says, and held the shooter until police arrived.
Dugan says the man with the gunshot wound was taken to Evanston Hospital while the other man, who had suffered injuries in the fight or while being restrained by the other partygoers, was taken to St. Francis Hospital. Both men’s injuries are not considered to be life-threatening.
Dugan says police are still investigating the incident and haven’t decided whether charges will be filed.
