Both Evanston public school districts have announced that schools will be closed Wednesday because of the severe weather conditions.

In addition Evanston Township High School has cancelled all scheduled after-school activities, events, and meetings for Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

Evanston/Skokie School District 65 Superintendent Hardy Murphy says  students looking for something to do on the unexpected holiday can participate in activities at the city’s recreation centers, which he says will be open Wednesday.

However a notice this afternoon from the city said no decision had been made yet about whether the recreation centers will be open Wednesday.

Update 4:08 p.m.: City officials now say the Fleetwood-Jourdain, Crown, and Chandler-Newberger recreation centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday. The Levy Center will be closed for regular activities, but staff will be present to assist seniors as needed.
