The ‘Kits, ‘Cats and kids block party drew hundreds of people to Sherman Avenue downtown Thursday evening to listen to marching bands and chow down at food trucks.

Both the Northwestern University and Evanston Township High School marching bands were on hand, along with the flag-twirling and pom-pom waving groups intended to build school spirit.

Kits could explore their artistic side at the “Art Van Go” table set up by the Evanston Art Center.

And a half-dozen food trucks and vendors helped satisfy the hunger-pangs of the dinner-time crowd.

The block party was designed to promote Evanston Day at Northwestern’s Ryan Field on Saturday when the Wildcats play the Western Illinois University Fighting Leathernecks. Discounted game tickets for Evanstonians are still available today using the code “purple” at
