Several downtown Evanston buildings are without electric power this afternoon.

The 500 Davis St. office building and others on the block bounded by Hinman Avenue, Davis Street, Chicago Avenue and Grove Street reportedly are affected by the outage.

The power failure reportedly hit around 3:30 p.m.

There’s no word from Commonwealth Edison yet on the scope of the blackout, it’s cause or when power is likely to be restored.

Some workers at the 500 Davis building have been sent home from work early because of the loss of power.

A recent report to Evanston’s Energy Commission says city residents suffered 189 electric service interruptions last year that typically lasted less than two hours.
