Evanston police say the driver of the car involved in the early Sunday morning rollover accident on Dodge Avenue now has been charged with a felony — aggravated driving under the influence — in the crash that killed her passenger.

Monica Wallace, 42, of 1422 Brown Ave., also faces four traffic citations — for disobeying a red light, driving in the wrong lane, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failing to have insurance.

She’s scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 9.

The passenger in Wallace’s car, Lamart Bailey, 45, of Evanston, was trapped in the wreckage and, after being rescued from the car by Evanston firefighter-paramedics, was transported to Evanston Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The accident occured about 2:19 a.m. on Dodge between Church and Lyons streets. Several parked cars were damaged after the 1998 Nissan Wallace was driving went out of control. Wallace was also injured and was taken to Evanston Hospital where she was last reported in serious but stable condition.

Police say a determination about other possible charges awaits the result of toxicology tests.
