An Evanston man is facing gun charges after police say he was involved in a traffic accident early Sunday morning.

Police Cmdr. Ryan Glew says that about 4 a.m. Sunday officers found a BMW that had hit several unoccupied parked cars in the 800 block of Dodge Avenue.

He says they located Tyree Green, who admitted to being the driver of the BMW.

In checking the car, Glew says an officer found a loaded Smith and Wesson 9 mm handgun on the rear floorboard behind the driver’s seat and Green, who lives in the 700 block of Mulford Street, was arrested.

Green was uninjured in the crash, but was transported to an area hospital for evaluation.

Green, who police say did not have a concealed carry license or a FOID card, was charged with one felony count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and his car was towed from the scene.

Green was also issued traffic citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and for operating a vehicle without proof of insurance.

He’s been released on a $5000D bond. His next court date is Aug. 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the Skokie Courthouse.
