The Evanston Fire Department has announced the promotion of Fire Apparatus Operator (F.A.O.) Mark Buchanan to captain and Firefighter/Paramedic Ryan Roeder to fire apparatus operator.

A promotion ceremony will take place this Friday, Dec. 28, at 3 p.m., in the Sam Hicks Training Room at department headquarters, 909 Lake St.

F.A.O. Buchanan is a 16-year veteran of the department and has served as a fire apparatus operator since the inception of the program. He has been involved in several of Evanston’s special teams, including HAZ-MAT and Technical Rescue, and has participated in the Paramedic Preceptor program, mentoring new paramedics in the Presence Saint Francis Hospital EMS system. He is certified as a Fire Officer I and an Instructor II. 

Firefighter/Paramedic Roeder is a 12-year veteran of the department and is a certified fire apparatus operator. He is a member of the department’s Technical Rescue Team and has been involved with several committees
