Evanston health officials reported eight new COVID-19 cases today, bringing the total here to 990. Statewide there were 1,992 new cases, and with 44,678 tests, a positive rate for the day of 4.6%

That’s up from the seven-day average positive rate of 4.2%.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported test results for 203 Evanston residents today and only reported two new cases here for a positive rate of 1%. The state’s tally of cases here now stands at 984, six less than the number reported by the city.

Evanston’s COVID-19 death toll remained unchanged today at 72.

Chicago reported 435 new cases today for a total of 60,984 and six more deaths for a total of 2,875.

Suburban Cook County had 444 new cases today for a total of 55,019 and two more deaths for a total of 2,179.

The dead in Cook County today included a woman in her 30s, two women in their 50s, one in her 60s and two in their 70s along with two men in their 60s.

Across Illinois the case count now stands at 233,355 and the death toll increased by 11 today to 8,019.
