Evanston health officials reported eight new COVID-19 cases today, the highest single-day count in just over a month.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported the city’s positive test result rate increased to 5.3% today. It has averaged 1.9% over the past seven days.

The death toll from the disease in Evanston remained unchanged today at 69. The total number of cases in the city now stands at 793.

Chicago reported 204 new cases today for a total of 52,354 and five more deaths for a total of 2,598.

Across Illinois 724 more cases were reported today for a total of 143,185 and 21 more deaths for a total of 6,923.

The state reported results of 31,069 tests for the novel coronavirus disease today with a positive rate of 2.3%, slightly lower than the seven-day average of 2.6%
