Evanston health officials reported eight new COVID-19 cases today, down from 24 yesterday. The city’s death toll remained unchanged at 94.

Statewide there were 4,762 new cases today, compared to 7,201 yesterday, for a new total of 975,352.

But officials cautioned that today’s numbers may have been artificially reduced by holiday-related reporting delays.

The state reported 27 COVID-19 deaths today, compared to 157 yesterday, for a new total of 16,674.

The state reported 61,987 COVID-19 tests today, compared to 97,222 yesterday.

The IDPH reported tests of 439 Evanston residents today, compared to 856 yesterday. It found 21 positive cases for a daily positive rate of 4.8%.

The state now says Evanston has had a total of 3,202 cases, while Evanston’s health department counts 3,130 cases.

Chicago reported 890 new COVID-19 cases today for a total of 207,076 and no new deaths, leaving the total death count at 4,181.

Suburban Cook county reported 848 new cases today for a total of 190,866 and three more deaths for a total of 3,740.

The daily press release from the IDPH reported five COVID-related deaths in Chicago and Cook County, including a man in his 50s, a man in his 60s, a man in his 70s and a woman and a man in their 90s.

As of last night, 3,799 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 783 patients were in the ICU and 458 of those were on ventilators.
