Evanston health officials reported eight new COVID-19 cases today, down from 13 yesterday. That’s first time new cases have fallen to single-digits in nearly two months.
The city’s death toll remained unchanged today at 94.
Statewide there were 5,742 new cases today, compared to 7,037 yesterday, for a new total of 930,849.
The state reported 156 deaths today, compared to 96 yesterday, for a new total of 15,799.
The state reported 98,958 COVID-19 tests today, compared to 94,909 yesterday.
The Illinois Department of Public Health reported tests of 746 Evanston residents today, compared to 386 yesterday. It found 10 positive cases for a daily positive rate of 1.3%.
The state now says Evanston has had a total of 3,072 cases, while Evanston’s health department counts 3,005 cases.
Chicago reported 1,112 new cases today for a total of 199,189. Its coronavirus death toll increased by 26 today to 4,041.
Suburban Cook County reported 1,093 more cases today for a total of 183,024 and 41 more deaths for a total of 3,595.
Those who died in Cook County today included two men in their 40s, a woman and six men in their 50s, two women and eight men in their 60s, five women and nine men in their 70s, eight women and 10 men in their 80s and 11 woman and five men in their 90s.
As of last night, 4,352 people in Illinois were reported to be in the hospital with COVID-19. Of those, 928 patients were in the ICU and 538 of those were on ventilators.
