The Emerson Street bridge over the North Shore Channel in Evanston is scheduled to re-open sometime today.

That was the word from Alderman Delores Holmes, 5th Ward, at Monday’s City Council meeting.

The state-funded $4.1 million project has closed the main route in and out of Evanston for most of the year to replace the worn-out bridge and provide additional space for bike lanes across it.

Some landscaping work still remains to be done, and Holmes said the city will hold a formal ribbon cutting for the project after the weather warms up in the spring.
