Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl is asking local businesses join the city’s Youth Engagement Initiative by hiring summer workers at the Youth Job Fair on Sunday, April 21, at the Civic Center.
Tisdahl says hiring youth and young adults is “vital for the future of Evanston and for our local economy.”
The city has secured several commitments from private employers, but participation is needed by additional businesses to ensure that all of the youth and young adults who want to be employed can be.
Employers may hire youth and pay 100 percent of their salaries, or they may partner with the city in a 50/50 salary arrangement.
Interested employers can contact Knetra Shaw, the youth and young adult assistant program manager, no later than Friday, April 13, at 847-448-8049 or youth@cityofevanston.org.
The fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to Evanston youth and young adults 14 to 18 years of age. The employment program begins on June 4 and ends on Aug. 10.
Youth are invited to attend one of the remaining eight outreach sessions held through April 13 in order to learn about job openings and fill out an application in advance.
