    Congratulations to Sergeant Hearts-Glass.

This is just another example of how we benefit from having a major research university in our city. I bet that a lot of cops in Cicero and Oak Park or Harwood Heights wish that they could have an opportunity to attend the School of Police Staff and Command – but just don’t have the time to drive all the way up here.
I have also met several police and EMTA people from around the country who have come to Evanston to participate in programs run by NU and the Center for Public Safety. They are spending money in our restaurants and hotels and all of the unique and charming small businesses in town.
It is unfortunate that some mean, intolerant and short-sighted residents of Evanston keep trying to kill the purple goose that lays golden eggs. The “Fair Share” people and the “General Dawes” people should stop scapegoating NU, and spend their time looking for ways to benefit from NU other than by stealing NU’s money.
