Romantic favorites – and a gifted young pianist – highlight the opening concert of the Evanston Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, Oct. 23, at Pick-Staiger concert hall in Evanston.
The 2:30 p.m. concert features pieces from the classical symphonic repertoire – Schubert’s Symphony in B Minor, the famous “Unfinished” symphony, Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in Eb Major and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 8 in G Major.
Conducted by Music Director Lawrence Eckerling, the orchestra will feature virtuoso pianist Colton Peltier who will perform the Liszt Concerto, commemorating the 200th anniversary of the birth of the composer.
The 17-year-old Peltier began his concert performing career at age 9 with the St. Paul (Minn.) Chamber Orchestra. He has performed with numerous orchestras and has participated in a number of important competitions. He now studies full-time in the piano program at the Julliard School in New York City.
Tickets are $27 for adults, $22 for seniors, $5 for students with a student ID, subject to availability, and free for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult.
Tickets are available online or by calling 847-864-8804. Tickets can also be purchased at the box office on the day of the concert at $30 for adults and $25 for seniors, with the prices for student and child tickets unchanged.
