Evanston’s basketball team has been voted the No. 4 seed for the 49th annual Pekin Insurance Holiday Tournament.

The Wildkits will open tournament play on Dec. 26 against downstate Washington at 2:15 p.m.

Defending tournament champion Springfield Lanphier, Limestone and Plainfield East earned the top three seeds for the event, which concludes with the championship game on Dec. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Coach Mike Ellis’ squad will be making its second appearance at the tourney after splitting four games there last year. The Wildkits could face the only team to defeat them so far this winter, Mount Carmel, in the second round of the tourney.

Also participating in the tournament are Morton, Peoria Richwoods, Normal West, Freeport, Peoria Central, Pekin, Hersey, East Moline, Rockford Boylan and Lake Zurich.

Lanphier defeated Pekin 76-60 in last year’s title game.
