Maurizio Grillo, head boys soccer coach at Evergreen Park, has been named ETHS head coach of girls soccer.
Athletic Director Chris Livatino appointed Grillo to replace Tasha Nemo who moved on to take a teaching position at Niles West High School.
In the current fall season of boys’ soccer, Grillo’s Evergreen Park team has already broken two school records — most goals scored in a season (20) and most school wins in conference – and they have only played four games. Last year, in his first year at Regina Dominican High School in Wilmette, he led his team to the Sweet 16, the farthest in school history.
Also adept in the world of club soccer, Coach Grillo is affiliated with the Euro Soccer Club, having worked with boys and girls teams ranging in ages from 14-18. Previously, he was an assistant at Loyola Academy in Wilmette and coached high school and club soccer in Milan, Michigan.
“We are very excited about Coach Grillo coming to ETHS,” says Livatino. “His passion for the game is contagious and he has demonstrated that he has the vision and leadership to manage a successful varsity high school program.”
Livatino says Grillo works at developing individual technical skills and winning game strategies, using his lifelong experience from formal training in Europe and as a player in Italy. Coach Grillo is a native of Italy, and is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian.
