More than 300 people from arts groups from around Illinois attending the One State arts conference in Evanston this week were entertained this evening on the lawn of Northwestern University’s Norris Center by two Evanston performing arts groups.

The Evanston Children’s Choir, directed by Gary Geiger, sang and jugglers from the Actors Gymnasium performed for the group, which is holding the rest of its conference at the Hilton Orrington Hotel downtown.

Evanston aldermen cancelled the City Council meeting scheduled for tonight so they could attend the reception and a number of city staffers were on hand as well.

The evening reception also featured tours of NU art facilities including the school’s new music building.

The biennial One State: Together in the Arts conference draws a cross-section of artists, arts managers and arts talk about the importance of the arts to individuals and society.

Previous editions of the conference have been held in the Quad Cities and in Bloomington-Normal.
