An Evanston police officer reportedly has been charged with leaving the scene of of a Hammond, Indiana, traffic accident that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.

The Times of Northwest Indiana reports that a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Daniel J. Kooi, 40, of Lansing, after charges were filed against him in the case last Friday.

The paper says the accident happened shortly before midnight last Aug. 23 near the Horseshoe Casino when Kooi, driving his private vehicle, allegedly turned across oncoming traffic into the path of the motorcycle.

Evanston police say the 13-year veteran of the force has been on unpaid administrative leave since days after the crash.
