Local Democratic leaders are holding a fundraiser Thursday to support Forrest Claypool, who earlier this month won the Democratic Party of Evanston’s endorsement as an independent in the race for Cook County Assessor over the winner of the Democratic primary, Joe Berrios.

The fundraiser will start at 6:30 p.m. at the Firehouse Grill, 750 Chicago Ave. Ticket prices start at $150.

Claypool says Evanston party leaders “have always been at the forefront of reforming Illinois.”

“With their efforts,” he added, “We will be victorious in November and beat back the tide of corruption.”

DPOE members voted by a 94 percent margin to endorse Claypool over Berrios at a special party meeting Sept. 12.

Evanston Commiteeman and State Senator Jeff Schoenberg praised Claypool’s “unshakable commitment to greater accountability and transparency in government,” adding that “he is truly a friend of the taxpayer.”

The local party also endorsed Claypool in his unsuccessful 2006 race for county commission president.
