Evanston police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with a purse snatching on Main Street.
Police Cmdr. Jay Parrott says a someone grabbed the purse from the shoulder of a woman at 714 Main St. about 3:35 p.m. Thursday.
Parrott says police responding to the scene got a description of the thief from several witnesses who said he’d fled in the direction of a home in the 1100 block of Sherman Avenue where officers knew a subject matching the witness descriptions might be staying.
When officers searched that property they found the victim’s belongings including the purse, $50 in cash, credit cards and a drivers license.
And they also found and arrested Vashaun R. Jackson, 22, of Evanston.
Parrott says Jackson’s been arrested twice before in the past nine months — in connection with a car burglary attempt in August in which he was charged with criminal damage to property and in connection with a residential burglary last March in which he was charged with criminal trespass to property.
Jackson now faces a felony charge of theft from a person and is scheduled to appear in Skokie district court at 9 a.m. on Jan. 5.

This guy's name stuck out when I first heard it in the Evanston police report. And that is because he is a frequent star of the police report–as Parrott says. For public safety, it would be great if Evanston Now could post his picture. Furthermore, why in the world aren't the cops monitoring this guy's online presence. On his Facebook page a couple of hours before the job, he posted: "In da hood thinkin of a masterplan.we still.an team" All of his posts for the past couple weeks are talking about how he needs money. Given his background, its unlikely this guy is getting a real job so the cops should be monitoring him.
