Police say an Evanston man has posted bond and been released on electronic monitoring after being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.

Evanston Police Cmdr. Brian Henry says Johnathan N. Abbott, 31, of 1624 Fowler Ave., was arrested Saturday after an officer conducting traffic enforcement in the area of Lake Street and Dodge Avenue noticed his gray BMW X5 traveling south on Dodge with an equipment violation.

Henry says the officer pulled the car over at Dodge and Lee and noticed “the smell of unburnt cannabis emanating from the vehicle.”

After the police K-9 dog confirmed the presense of contraband, Henry says, officers searched the car and found 84 grams of cannabis and a loaded handgun in the center console.
