Police say a 32-year-old Evanston man was shot in the neck as he sat in a car in the 1800 block of Leland Avenue about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday.

Cmdr. Joseph Dugan says the victim told police a gold-colored vehicle pulled up next to him and a male black passenger in that car with braided hair asked his name and then fired two gunshots at him.

The assailant's car then fled the area westbound on Emerson Street, and a passenger in the victim''s car drove him to Evanston Hospital where he's being treated for an injury that's not considered life-threatening.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Evanston Police Department non-emergency number at (847) 866-5000 and ask for the detective bureau or use Text-A-Tip by sending an anonymous text message to CRIMES (274637) and typing EPD TIP in the message line followed by the information.
