Evanston Now has just added a new live chat feature called “NowTalk” to the site.

If you’re visiting Evanston Now on a desktop or laptop computer you should see it on the lower right hand corner of the page.

The feature is not available yet for visitors using tablet computers or smartphones because of screen size limitations.

You can use it to ask questions or discuss topics in the news with other visitors to the site.

You can comment anonymously, or sign in to use NowTalk using you social media accounts, or by registering as a NowTalk user

We’re trying this as an experiment, and we’d be happy to get your feedback about the product in comments on this story.

Update 11:59 p.m. 8/12/13: We’re going to take the NowTalk feature down overnight and experiment with it some more during the day Tuesday.

Update 1:54 p.m. 8/13/13: NowTalk is back up on the site for another test run.

Bill Smith is the editor and publisher of Evanston Now.

  1. Yak window = annoying.

If, like me, you find the "NowTalk" yak window annoying, first click the X in the NowTalk title bar.  When it shrinks down to a bar, click the X in the bar.  When asked "Are you sure you want to exit this chat", click Yes.

    Voila, no more yak.
