Evanston’s planning and zoning manager, Dennis Marino has announced he’s retiring effective June 28.

City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz says Marino has served the city for nearly 23 years in a variety of capacities that have helped Evanston grow and prosper. “He leaves the City a better place than when he started,” Bobkiewicz said.

    So now is a good time to ask:

    Do we need a new planning and zoning manager?

    Evanston is over-planned, over-zoned, and over-NIMBYed.
