The Evanston Police Department’s Traffic Bureau will run a roadside safety checkpoint from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Saturday on the Memorial Day weekend in a high traffic area in the city.

The safety check is intended to reduce traffic crashes and the risks associated with violation of vehicular safety laws including impaired driving.

Additional enforcement activities will focus on compliance with the Illinois driver license statutes, liability insurance compliance, safety belt rules and other vehicle laws including local ordinances.

The roadside safety checkpoint program is funded through a grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
