An Evanston teenager, shot in the head Thursday night while sitting on a park bench in Rogers Park, died this morning at St. Francis Hospital.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the youth, Omar Estrada, 16, of 1525 Howard St., was in Touhy Park at 7345 N. Paulina St, with a younger female companion when shots rang out.

The Chicago Tribune reports the shooting happened about 7:45 p.m.

The girl reportedly told police it was so foggy that she didn’t see the shooter and had no idea where the shots came from.

Chicago police say Estrada had no gang affiliations and no arrest record.

Evanston parents who say their youngsters knew the victim say he was a junior at Evanston Township High School.

  1. Evanston Teenager is murdered in a park

Sitting in a park? It is still daylight. Talking to a girl?  They make musicals about this.  This is not acceptable.  I have high school children.  What and why… and oh this is so sad.  This is a problem. This is our community.  What do you feel? What do you think?  This child was 16.
