Evanston Now reader Carl Bova captured this picture of a busy beaver this morning from the golf course cart bridge over the the North Shore Channel near Green Bay Road.

Bova says its the third time he’s seen the critter, but “unlike the two previous times, when I saw it paddling along, this time it stopped and had a bite to eat.”

Bova says it was munching on the bark of a branch from one of several small trees that had been cut by the golf course to improve visability from a tee on one side of the channel to the green on the other.

He says he’s also seen two-foot-long snapping turtles, great blue herons, black-crowned night herons, coyotes, deer, loons, and crawfish on the channel near the course over the past year.

The golf course, Bova says, “seems to offer a bit of seclusion from the hustle and bustle, and the banks and the channel act as a highway for these creatures.”
