February 13 is Mardi Gras, so the Northwestern University Jazz Orchestra celebrates “Fat Tuesday” and New Orleans—the Crescent City—with new arrangements of famous Mardi Gras compositions. For this concert, the Jazz Orchestra welcomes New Orleans jazz artist Don Vappie, a banjoist, bassist, guitarist, and composer/arranger. Vappie has performed with artists including Peggy Lee, Carol Channing, Wynton Marsalis, Eric Clapton, and Bette Midler, and made appearances at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and on National Public Radio.
