The Evanston Symphony Orchestra, led by Music Director Lawrence Eckerling, will celebrate the 100th birthday of Leonard Bernstein, America’s greatest musical genius, with the vocal virtuosity of local favorite Michelle Areyzaga and the North Shore Choral Society.
The concert includes “Glitter and Be Gay” from Candide, and Chichester Psalms. A short overture by John Williams based on Bernstein melodies, For New York (To Lenny! To Lenny!), completes the tribute.
The concert concludes with the great choral blockbuster, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, which combines haunting Medieval and Renaissance melodies with a large percussion laden orchestra.
This concert will be held on Sunday, May 12, at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please visit www.evanstonsymphony.org.
