The Kiwanis Club of Evanston launches the eighth annual edition of its Faces of Evanston photo contest Sunday.

The contest seeks to capture the essence of Evanston, what makes it a community so many people love, through photos or a video.

The contest is open to anyone, professional or amateur, as long as the subject features individuals or sites in Evanston. The Kiwanis Club of Evanston initiated the contest several years ago, under the direction of Dr. Stamata Blanas.

Cash prizes ranging from $200 to $75 will be awarded to the winners. Complete contest rules are available on the contest website. There’s a $5 fee for each photo entered, but elementary and high school students can enter up to five photos and one video free of charge.

The contest runs through Aug. 31. A panel of independent judges will decide on the winners. The public is invited to view the winning entries on September 27 at a reception at the Noyes Culture Center.

The winning photos and video will be displayed at several Evanston venues over the following year, starting with First Bank & Trust, 820 Davis St. in October.
