Each fall since 1990, the Woman’s Club of Evanston creates the Fairy Tale Trail to provide a safe, non-frightening, fun Halloween experience for children of all ages and abilities.
Mermaids, wizards, safari guides and princesses will welcome the children to the WCE clubhouse, at 1702 Chicago Ave., which will be transformed into a maze of eight rooms – each showcasing a different children’s story or theme.
Each fully accessible, fantasy-filled room will feature multi-sensory activities and costumed volunteers who will engage and enchant children with and without special needs.
Schools with programs for physically, cognitively or economically challenged students who may not otherwise experience Halloween due to physical or financial limitations, will attend free of charge for a special weekday field trip.
A nominal admission fee charged to the general public during weekend hours funds all expenses for running and maintaining the trail, including bus scholarships. The Trail expects to host approximately 400 school children and more than 1,000 additional visitors.
Fairy Tale Trail will be open to the public on Friday, Oct. 28, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The cost per person (adult or child) is $5 and tickets can be purchased at the door.
Attendees can also buy light snacks and refreshments at the Trail’s Pumpkin Patch Café. Children are encouraged to join in the fun by coming in costume.
